The Break-Even Math
A Seoul subway ride starts around ₩1,550 and a city bus around ₩1,500. The 1-day Climate Card tourist pass is ₩5,000:
- ≤3 rides/day: T-money wins — you'd pay under ₩4,700 anyway.
- 4+ rides/day: Climate Card wins, and you stop thinking about fares entirely.
- Multi-day: the 3-day pass (₩10,000) breaks even at just over 2 rides per day — easy to hit while sightseeing.
Remember to add the one-time ₩3,000 physical Climate Card cost (international credit cards accepted at purchase since early 2026), and note the short-term tourist passes cover subway and city buses only — not bike share or the Han River ferry.
The Coverage Traps That Catch Tourists
- ✕Airport train: you cannot board AREX at Incheon Airport with a Climate Card. Pay the airport leg with T-money bought at the airport, then start the pass in the city. Full route options in our airport-to-Seoul guide.
- ✕Shinbundang Line (the fast red line to Gangnam/Pangyo) is not covered by the Climate Card.
- ✕Leaving Seoul: Gyeonggi/Incheon buses and day trips (Suwon, Everland shuttles, DMZ tours) fall outside Climate Card coverage — carry T-money as backup.
- ✕Taxis and convenience stores take T-money, never the Climate Card.
